A Race Through the Mountains - Catskill Divide Road Race Aug 21st

Ok!  Who's ready for a challenge like no other Road Race you've ever participated in?  The Great Catskill Divide Road Race is a race like no other.  It will take you on some of the most remote roads found in the Catskill Park, and will take you up and over the Catskill Divide (topo line separating waters flowing to the Hudson & Delaware rivers).

The application is finalized.  The route is finalized.  The volunteers are coming together nicely (but we're not turning away more help, so send them our way!)  We just did a semi-final recon of the route today, and it is going to be A-MA-ZING!!!  There will be road.  There will be dirt.  The road will go up, and the road will go down.  And in the end, the fastest guy/girl with the most grit, luck, and grace will find themselves atop the podium.  And we will be glad to hand them an envelope of prize $$!

If you are one of those people looking for a different type of race to compete in, who feel that the mountains are what bikes were made for, and you feel a little dirt is good for bikes, then this is the race for you.  If you are going to race, here are a few tips you should know before you show:

You should have pave-like tires of a wider tread that are puncture resistant.  Puncture resistance will have a greater advantage than a few grams of weight.

You may want to race your cyclocross bike with cross tires.  This will give you an advantage on the dirt, but be a bit slower on the tarmac.

Your brakes and brake cables should be adjusted properly and in tip-top condition.  There are several steep descents which will require a properly maintained bike and a healthy dose of caution for your safety.

For your feet, you may want to have a CX or MTB setup for your pedals and shoes.  There is a short section of course on Townsend Hollow road that is 20% grade on a dirt road.  You may have to hike-a-bike at this section.

If you try this race once, you will probably agree this is the biggest little race you'll find.  Sign up today!
